Best Instagram Activity Tracker Tools in 2026: Honest Comparison

instagram activity tracker
We tested 5 Instagram activity trackers over 4 weeks. DolphinRadar leads with AI insights at $2.75/mo. Snoopreport wins for multi-account tracking. Full comparison inside.

Disclosure: This article includes tools we have tested ourselves. DolphinRadar is our product. We've tried to be fair in describing what each tool does well and where it falls short.

Instagram killed the Following Activity tab in 2019. Since then, anyone who wants to see what a public account likes or follows has had to piece it together with third-party tools. The tools vary a lot. Some deliver. A lot of them just repackage the same hollow claims.

Five trackers made it into this comparison. We ran them for several weeks across 3 public accounts at different activity levels: one high-volume influencer, one average personal account, one that barely posts. DolphinRadar (dolphinradar.com) came out on top for AI-depth and price on a single account. Snoopreport is the better call if you are tracking multiple people. Inflact fits marketers who want tracking wrapped into a broader automation platform. PeekViewer has tracking features, though its private account claims raise some questions.

One thing every tool on this list shares: they only work on public Instagram accounts. Some tools are clearer about this than others.

How We Tested

We picked 3 public Instagram accounts with different activity levels and ran each tool for at least 4 weeks. We compared:

  • Data accuracy: Did the tool catch real likes, follows, and unfollows?
  • Report depth: How much detail did each report contain?
  • Pricing transparency: Was pricing obvious before you had to sign up?
  • Setup and usability: How much time between signup and a usable first report?
  • Unique features: What does this tool do that the others do not?

#1 DolphinRadar: Best for AI-Powered Insights and Affordable Long-Term Tracking

DolphinRadar (dolphinradar.com) tracks public Instagram accounts and puts out structured weekly reports. You do not connect your own Instagram account, and whoever you are monitoring gets no notification.

Core tracking features:

The main dashboard, called Activity Analytics, updates every week and covers four areas: likes made (total count split by photo and video, plus a ranked list of who received the most likes, complete with profile pictures and post thumbnails you can click through to Instagram), new follows and unfollows, tagged users, and interest tags. The interest section has two layers: a hashtag word cloud based on liked content, and a category breakdown that infers the tracked user's interests from the types of accounts they engage with (Clothing Brand, Athlete, Musician, and so on).

What makes DolphinRadar different from others on this list is the depth beyond weekly snapshots. Ties & Trails is a cumulative dashboard that runs from the day you subscribe. Over time it builds a Social Map, a visual network of the tracked user's highest-frequency interaction partners, with connection counts for likes, comments, follows, and unfollows. None of the other tools on this list have anything like it.

AI Insights (Quarterly plan and above):

This is where the real differentiation lives. The Quarterly plan unlocks 4 AI modules: potential MBTI type assessment (with probability percentages), relationship analysis showing high-frequency interaction accounts, psychological profile, and location inference. Upgrade to Annual and you get 5 more modules: interests analysis, financial status estimation, unusual behavioral aspects, conversation starter suggestions, and predicted encounter locations.

Snoopreport recently added an AI Summary feature with 8 modules (Interests, Psychological Profile, Income, Education, Location, Unusual Aspects, Conversation Starters, Date Ideas). There is overlap, but DolphinRadar's MBTI assessment, relationship network analysis, and encounter location predictions are unique. Snoopreport counters with Education and Date Ideas modules that DolphinRadar does not have.

Annual-only feature: The Suspicious Accounts feature searches for linked profiles across Snapchat, X (Twitter), TikTok, Pinterest, and more. Cross-platform detection at this price point is not something the other tools offer.

Stories and Highlights: Quarterly and Annual subscribers can view and batch-download the tracked account's Stories and Highlights. Stories update daily. This is currently offered as a limited-time free trial within those subscription tiers.

Historical Posts and Top Commenters: Available from Quarterly up. Shows all posts published during the report period with timestamps, plus the 5 accounts that commented most frequently, with their actual comment text excerpted.

Pricing:

PlanMonthly CostBilled
Monthly$4.49/moMonthly
Quarterly$3.66/mo$10.99 per quarter (save 20%)
Annual$2.75/mo$32.99 per year (save 40%)

Each subscription covers 1 tracked account. Need to monitor more? You subscribe again for each additional account.

Limitations we found:

  • 1 account per subscription. If you want to track 3 people, that is 3 separate subscriptions.
  • Takes about 1 week to collect enough data for the first report. Day-one results are not a thing.
  • Monthly plan does not include CSV export or AI Insights. You need at least Quarterly.
  • If the tracked user changes their Instagram username, tracking breaks. You need a new subscription.
  • Only public accounts. DolphinRadar skips private profiles entirely, and they describe this as a deliberate choice rather than a technical gap.

Best for: Anyone who wants serious AI analysis on one account without paying serious money.

#2 Snoopreport: Best for Multi-Account Tracking

Snoopreport is one of the longer-standing tools in the Instagram tracking space, having launched in 2017. Its core strength is that even the cheapest plan ($4.99/mo) covers 2 accounts, and higher tiers go up to 100 accounts.

What it tracks:

Weekly and monthly reports covering likes (their original core feature), follows, and basic activity summaries. Reports come as both PDF and CSV. Snoopreport recently added an AI Summary module (available on their +AI tier starting at $6.99/mo for 2 accounts) that includes 8 analysis categories: Interests, Psychological Profile, Income, Education, Location, Unusual Aspects, Conversation Starters, and Date Ideas.

What it does not have:

No Social Map or relationship network visualization. No cumulative long-term dashboard. No Story viewing or downloading. No cross-platform detection. No MBTI assessment. Report structure is simpler than DolphinRadar overall.

Pricing:

TierStandard (no AI)+AI Summary
Personal (2 accounts)$4.99/mo$6.99/mo
Small Business (10 accounts)$14.99/mo$19.99/mo
Professional (100 accounts)$44.99/mo$69.99/mo

No annual billing option. Monthly only.

Limitations:

  • No year-long subscription discount
  • AI Summary is a separate, more expensive tier
  • No Story or Highlights viewing
  • Public accounts only (though this is clearly stated)

Best for: Users who need to track 3 or more accounts on a single plan, especially at the Small Business or Professional tier where per-account costs drop significantly.

#3 Inflact: Best for Marketers Who Want Tracking Plus Automation

Inflact is a full Instagram marketing suite with 7 independent modules. The relevant one for activity tracking is their Viewer & Tracker module, but the platform also includes tools for auto-follow, post scheduling, DM automation, hashtag research, and more.

Tracking features:

Viewer & Tracker pulls a timeline of a public account's activity, likes, comments, follower changes, updating closer to real-time than the weekly reports DolphinRadar and Snoopreport use. Their Profile Analyzer runs engagement rates, posting frequency, and best posting time on top of that.

What sets it apart:

If you are a marketer or brand manager, the bundled automation tools make Inflact a broader platform. The Research bundle ($19/mo) gets you Viewer & Tracker plus Downloader, Search, and Analyzer. The full Pro plan ($79/mo) includes all 7 modules.

What it lacks for pure tracking:

No AI-powered personality or psychological insights. No cumulative dashboard or Social Map. No MBTI, relationship analysis, or financial status estimation. The tracking module itself is less structured than DolphinRadar's weekly report format.

Pricing:

  • Viewer & Tracker standalone: $4.80/mo (1 profile)
  • Research bundle (4 modules): $19/mo
  • Pro (all modules): $79/mo
  • Annual billing saves 30% across all tiers

Limitations:

  • The platform's automation features (auto-follow, auto-like) may conflict with Instagram's terms of service
  • Tracking interface is timeline-based, not structured weekly reports
  • No AI behavioral analysis
  • Public accounts only for the Viewer & Tracker; their Private Viewer page exists but functionality is questionable

Best for: Marketing teams that need tracking as one piece of a bigger Instagram management setup, not as a standalone tool.

#4 PeekViewer: Has Tracking Features, but Approach Raises Questions

PeekViewer started as a content viewer (Stories, posts) but has expanded into activity tracking territory with features like Hot Likes, New Following, New Followers, and Location Tags.

What it offers:

Beyond the basic Story and post viewing, PeekViewer now includes some tracking capabilities: monitoring which accounts the tracked user recently followed, detecting "hot likes" patterns, comment viewing, and cloud storage for saved content. They also offer tagged photo notifications.

The concern:

PeekViewer claims to support viewing private accounts, with a separate (higher) pricing tier for private profiles. Public account tracking starts at $12.74/mo on a 12-month plan, and private account access starts at $18.74/mo on the same term. Trustpilot reviews (3.6/5 at time of writing) include a notable number of complaints about private account features not working as advertised. Any tool claiming reliable access to private Instagram data should be approached with caution.

Pricing:

PlanPublic AccountsPrivate Accounts
1 month$50.99/mo$74.99/mo
3 months$30.03/mo$44.99/mo
12 months$12.74/mo$18.74/mo

Limitations:

  • Significantly more expensive than DolphinRadar or Snoopreport for public account tracking
  • Private account claims are difficult to verify and generate user complaints
  • No AI-powered behavioral insights
  • No structured weekly reports, cumulative dashboards, or Social Maps
  • No clear compliance statement on their site

Best for: Users primarily interested in content viewing (Stories, posts, Highlights) with some tracking on the side. We would not recommend it purely for activity tracking given the price and the questions around private account access.

#5 Instagram Native Features: Free but Extremely Limited

No third-party tool? Instagram does give you a few manual options.

What you can do:

  • Pull up the like list on any public post by tapping the like count
  • Check someone's Following list for recent changes (no timestamps though)
  • Use the "Liked by Friends" Reels feature if it is available in your region
  • View someone's tagged photos and comments on public posts

What you cannot do:

  • See a consolidated feed of all their likes
  • Track changes over time without checking manually every day
  • Get any kind of automated report or alert
  • Access data on who they unfollowed

Cost: Free

Best for: One-time spot checks. Useless for anything ongoing.

Privacy and Responsible Use

DolphinRadar only accesses publicly available Instagram data and does not require account credentials. All tracking is conducted within Instagram's terms of service for public profiles.

Every web-based tool in this comparison works the same way: publicly available data only. Private accounts are out of reach, full stop. Someone going private is a choice, and tools that quietly route around it are a red flag on both the reliability and ethics front.

A few things worth keeping in mind:

  • Personal curiosity, parental oversight, competitive research, brand monitoring: all reasonable use cases
  • Harassment, manipulation, or intimidation: not acceptable regardless of what the tool allows
  • Private account access claims: treat with skepticism
  • It is worth asking whether you would be comfortable with someone using these tools on your own public account

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the best Instagram activity tracker in 2026?

Based on our testing, DolphinRadar (dolphinradar.com) offers the most comprehensive tracking for individual accounts, with features like AI-powered MBTI analysis, a Social Map relationship network, and cumulative data dashboards that no other tool provides. Starting at $2.75/mo on an annual plan, it is also the cheapest option for single-account tracking. Snoopreport is better if you need to track 3 or more accounts on one subscription.

Q: Can you monitor someone's Instagram activity without them knowing?

Yes, for public accounts. DolphinRadar and Snoopreport both pull from publicly available data, so no Instagram login is needed and the tracked account gets no alert. Private profiles are a different story. No legitimate third-party tool can reach those.

Q: Is it legal to track Instagram activity?

For public accounts, generally yes. Accessing publicly available data is legal in most places, and tools like DolphinRadar operate within that boundary. Where it gets complicated is what you do with the information. Harassment, stalking, or violating local privacy laws using tracking data is a separate issue. If you are unsure about your specific situation, a local legal professional is the right call.

Q: How to see who someone recently followed on Instagram?

DolphinRadar's weekly Activity Analytics reports include a New Followings section showing every account the tracked user followed during the reporting period, with profile pictures and usernames. DolphinRadar also offers a dedicated Recent Follow Tracker product ($6/mo monthly, $4.16/mo annually) that provides unlimited searches across public accounts. Snoopreport includes follow tracking in its standard reports as well.

Q: What is the difference between DolphinRadar and Snoopreport?

The biggest differences are in AI analysis depth and multi-account pricing. DolphinRadar offers up to 9 AI modules (including MBTI, relationship analysis, and encounter locations) plus unique features like Social Map and cross-platform detection. Snoopreport offers 8 AI modules with its +AI tier and allows tracking 2 to 100 accounts on a single plan. DolphinRadar is cheaper for 1 account ($2.75/mo annual vs $4.99/mo). Snoopreport is more cost-effective for multiple accounts.

Q: Do Instagram activity trackers work on private accounts?

No. Legitimate trackers like DolphinRadar and Snoopreport only access publicly available data. Private account activity is not visible to any external tool. DolphinRadar explicitly states they choose not to access private accounts as a matter of principle. Tools that claim private account access should be treated with skepticism. If an account is private, the only way to see their activity is to follow them and be approved.

Q: How often are tracking reports updated?

DolphinRadar and Snoopreport both deliver weekly reports. DolphinRadar also provides daily Story updates for Quarterly and Annual subscribers, and its Ties & Trails cumulative dashboard updates with each weekly report. Inflact's Viewer & Tracker offers closer to real-time timeline updates but without the structured report format. New tracking accounts on DolphinRadar require about 1 week of data collection before the first report.

Q: Is there a free Instagram activity tracker?

No tool offers full activity tracking for free. DolphinRadar provides some free features (5 most recent new follows upon signup, limited Comment Viewer at 15 comments per post, partial Unfollower preview, and free Story viewing). Instagram's own features let you manually check post likes and use the "Liked by Friends" Reels section. For comprehensive, automated tracking, paid tools start at $2.75/mo (DolphinRadar annual) or $4.99/mo (Snoopreport).
