Instagram Recent Follows: DolphinRadar's September Update

Learn what Instagram's September changes mean for recent follows and explore DolphinRadar's Following Viewer, Post Likes and Story Viewer.

If you use Instagram recent follows to understand who someone is connecting with, September’s changes affect how you should read the results. A name at the top of a Following list no longer tells you when that connection began.

In September 2026, we updated DolphinRadar’s Recent Follow page and FAQs to explain what the results show and what their dates mean. Our new Instagram Following Viewer also provides a place to explore a public profile’s available Following information. Here is what you need to know before your next visit.

What You Need to Know About Instagram Recent Follows

  • List order does not establish follow dates. Moving higher in a Following list does not make an account a recent follow.
  • DolphinRadar begins with a saved list. Following Updates may show names that appear afterward. An incomplete earlier list can also explain a later appearance.
  • Displayed times refer to DolphinRadar results. They show when an account first appeared in our results for that profile, rather than its exact Instagram follow time.
  • You can explore more than follows. Following Viewer, Post Likes and Story Viewer offer different ways to browse public profiles and their content.

Can You Still See Recent Follows on Instagram?

You can view available Following information for public profiles and review names appearing after your starting list in DolphinRadar.

You cannot use those results to establish an exact follow date or reconstruct a complete newest-to-oldest history.

If you came looking for who someone followed yesterday, the first list will not answer that question. It provides the reference for later Following Updates. This is the distinction behind the revised explanation on our Instagram Recent Follows page.

What Changed with Instagram’s Following Lists in September?

The change reported on 9 September 2026 affected how Instagram serves following and follower lists. Their order no longer provides a basis for working out follow dates.

For users, that has three practical consequences:

  • The same list can appear in different orders between visits.
  • An older connection can appear above a newer one.
  • Tools using the list cannot determine follow dates from position alone.

An unfamiliar name near the top may simply have moved. Before treating it as a new connection, it helps to understand why Instagram Following list order is not a timeline.

How DolphinRadar Updated Its Recent Follow Feature

Our September page update changed how we explain recent-follow results. Earlier wording emphasized instant access to recent follows presented from newest to oldest. The revised page and FAQs explain three things:

  1. Where results begin: a public profile’s saved Following list becomes the starting point.
  2. What appears afterward: names absent from that starting list may appear in Following Updates when they become available in later results.
  3. What the time means: the displayed time refers to an account’s first appearance in DolphinRadar’s results for that profile.

We want you to have this context when you open a result. It helps distinguish the Following information available now from the history that a list cannot provide.

What Can You See on Instagram with DolphinRadar?

Who someone follows, who likes their posts and what they share are different questions. DolphinRadar provides several ways to explore them.

What you want to knowDolphinRadar featureWhat you can see
Who does this public profile follow?Instagram Following ViewerThe Following accounts available for that profile.
Which names appear after my starting list?Following UpdatesLater entries absent from the starting list, with their first appearance times in DolphinRadar. These do not by themselves confirm new follows.
Who liked a particular post?Instagram Post Likes ViewerAvailable liker information for a selected public post. Basic access is free.
Who likes this profile’s posts most often?Top LikersAccounts appearing most frequently among the available likes across recent posts. This requires paid access.
What Stories has this account shared?Instagram Story ViewerAvailable public Stories and Highlights, with supported download options.

For post engagement, open the Instagram Post Likes Viewer. Our guide explains how to see who liked an Instagram post, including individual liker lists and Top Likers. These features concern likes received by a profile’s posts, rather than everything a person has liked across Instagram.

How to Use DolphinRadar’s Instagram Following Viewer

If your question is “Who does this person follow?”, start with our new Instagram Following Viewer:

  1. Enter a public Instagram username. You do not need to connect your Instagram account.
  2. Browse the available Following list. Explore the people, creators, brands and communities behind the profile’s following count.
  3. Use the saved list as your starting point. Following Updates may contain additional names that appear in later results.

This is useful whether you are curious about someone you know, exploring an unfamiliar profile or learning about a creator’s public connections. Availability varies by profile, and some lists may be incomplete.

What Do Following Updates and Their Dates Mean?

Following Updates should be read in relation to your starting list:

  • A later appearance is not a confirmed new follow. An account missing from an incomplete earlier list may appear later, even if the connection already existed.
  • The displayed time belongs to the result. It marks the account’s first appearance in DolphinRadar for that profile. Update timing can vary.
  • Earlier history is not recreated. Existing connections in the first saved list are not assigned historical follow dates.

These distinctions help you understand what changed in your results without drawing conclusions the available information cannot support.

Using Instagram Viewers Responsibly

DolphinRadar’s viewers are intended for exploring publicly available Instagram information. Responsible use starts with a few straightforward boundaries:

  • Respect private accounts. These viewers do not provide access to private profiles or bypass their visibility settings.
  • Keep your Instagram credentials private. Following Viewer, Post Likes and Story Viewer do not require your Instagram password.
  • Respect creators’ rights. Being able to view or download content does not grant permission to republish it.
  • Keep public interactions in context. A follow or like alone does not establish a private relationship or someone’s intentions.

DolphinRadar is an independent service and is not affiliated with Instagram.

Common Questions About Instagram Recent Follows

Is someone’s Instagram Following list in chronological order?

Its order does not reliably show when accounts were followed. A name near the top should not be treated as the latest follow.

Can DolphinRadar show who someone followed before I started?

The first saved list shows available Following information and provides a starting point. It does not recreate earlier follow activity or establish which existing connection came first.

Why does an older account appear in Following Updates?

The account may have been missing from an earlier, incomplete list. Its later appearance in DolphinRadar does not establish that the Instagram connection is new.

Can I view an Instagram Following list without logging in?

Yes. DolphinRadar’s Instagram Following Viewer lets you browse available Following information for supported public profiles without signing in to Instagram.
